City Opera House Presents

Young Playwrights Festival


April 14, 2024

City Opera House annually invites regional high school students to submit an original one-act play to the Annual Young Playwrights Festival. Finalists are paired with national theater mentors, win $100 and see their play performed on the City Opera House stage. Young Playwrights Festival is a juried competition. You can see these six plays come to life on the City Opera House stage on April 14 at 1:30pm, at our 13th annual YPF.

This year's finalists are:

  • Lego Batman Keychain, written by Iliana Demas, Interlochen Arts Academy
  • My Best Friend's Wedding Reception, written by Minnie Bardenhagen, Suttons Bay High School/ Northwest Ed Writer's Studio
  • Mister Mirror written by Dominic Montoya-Arlt, Forest Area High School/Northwest Ed Writer's Studio
  • Hitchhiking written by Isabel Schmidt, Suttons Bay High School/ Northwest Ed Writer's Studio
  • Break A Leg written by Mason Moran, Traverse City Central High School/Northwest Ed Writer's Studio
  • What to do about Mara Samson by Madeline Rowney, Traverse City Central High School/Northwest Ed Writer's Studio
