Jim Hawley is no stranger to Traverse City audiences. His performances of original music and many classic favorites have embroidered him into the hearts of loyal followers here in his adopted hometown. Blending his warm wit, sense of humor and spontaneity, each performance is unique. In addition to performing solo, Jim is also one of the three leads in the much loved and lauded “Peter, Paul and Mary Remembered” group. His performances speak for themselves to his mastery of the genre. In this new compilation, Jim shares his talent by honoring the music of a different icon, one who deeply inspired Jim’s musical life.
Dan Fogelberg was a master musician and songwriter. He was also a man with all the trappings and frailties of what it means to be human. Through his music, he was able to express questions and doubts about love, hope, life and loss–questions that dwell in the hearts of all of us. His artistry with words and melody simply became a part of one’s consciousness. That gift belongs to only a chosen few, and Dan Fogelberg was one of the chosen.
Fogelberg passed away from prostate cancer in December of 2007; he was only 56 years young. His music remains timeless. As Jim Hawley expresses how deeply he has been touched by Fogelberg’s music, he muses:
They say the eyes are the windows to the soul. I believe Dan’s music was a doorway to his heart, and we were blessed that he lovingly let us in.
